Oedipus who is not listening because he is in disbelief of Teiresias accusations and desires for him to repeat what he said. Oedipus is angry and his inability to understand how he is the murderer makes him confused. The continuous questioning of Teiriasis indicates Oedipus is in disbelief. The naysaying continues between Teiresias tells Oedipus. Teiresias reiterates his guilt and explains the power of truth to Oedipus who slings accusations back at him. The entire dialog is dramatic and the irony is Oedipus is searching for justification of his accusations that he told the king. The words of guilt Teiriasis tells Oedipus creates suspense since Oedipus does not hear what he is saying. The irony is Oedipus does not know his true identity making him interpret things he is told differently than someone like Terisias. Oedipus misinterprets what Teiresias says because he believes Creon and Teiresias attempting to conspire against him in order for Creon to become king.
