I'm sure you've heard of the Olympics right? Swimming, racing, gymnastics...that's how they are today. What about the first Olympics? Did they have all the sports we have today and how did they benefit the people in ancient times? The games started many, many years ago. The following sports are those that were included in the games; running, long jump, shot put, javelin, discus, wrestling, boxing, pankration and equestrian competitions. The most famous ones were the horse and chariot races. Dangerous outcomes were always a factor, sharp turns could cause the wheels to lock together causing a crash and the men rode the horses bareback giving them many chances to fall off. On the other hand, those who competed in the games had a lot of preparing to do. They have to train in their own country for at least ten months prior to the games.
