In an age where meeting people traditionally is overrated and almost unheard of, online dating has become such a success that majority of the population has at least tried it out once in their lives. The article, "Online dating is shedding its stigma as a refuge for the desperate, but people who use sites such as Match.com and eHarmony are still in the minority." written by Barbara Ortutay in the Seattle Times is trying to show it's readers how much online dating has increased throughout the years. It brings up a significant amount of statistics to show how online dating is moving towards a more positive light and how more people are starting to accept it. According to this article roughly 38 percent of Americans have at one point in their life tried online dating. Another statistic mentioned stated that 59 percent of online users agreed that its a great way to meet many new and different people. This article also mentioned that 11 percent of people who are in a long-term relationship met their partner online. The purpose of this article is to shed light on a new and growing trend. Although online dating is mainly targeted for people between the ages of 24 to 35 as mentioned in the article, people in age groups of 35 to 44 and those over 65 have also given online dating a try.
