Operation Geronimo Operation Geronimo, a military operation that led to Osama bin Laden’s downfall, was legal under both domestic and international law, which affirmed President Obama’s authority to execute the mission. This operation completely shook the world upon the announcement of a successful mission. Despite the success, there has been heavy discussion over the topic of legality. President Obama did not make rash decisions; rather he weighed the risks against the consequences and ensured everything met the legal justification to execute Operation Geronimo. Since the legality is controversial, let us investigate Operation Geronimo and back up President Obama’s order. The United States Congress passed the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) following the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, attacks. The AUMF granted a legal basis for the United States Military to impose action against those responsible for the attacks and their associated forces.
