The view of law enforcement has been negatively affected by corrupt officers throughout the years. Corruption within law enforcement is not a recent phenomenon, but has been documented throughout history. The roots of corruption often lie in systemic flaws, including inadequate oversight, weak accountability mechanisms, and the insidious influence of organized crime. A very early example of corruption within policing would be even before the bow street runners in 1748 with volunteer officers that would be paid off by higher-ups to stay quiet about doing illegal things at night. Bribery is one of the most common acts of corruption, still to this day. Corrupt officers not only violate the trust of the communities they serve but also obstruct
