Companies see that it is in their best interest to employ abroad to save money, but a strong and educated consumer can demand better labor practices through boycotts as well as insisting to their congressmen to start a large scale conversation on the topic. Coming to a fair trade agreement is difficult as many nations have different agendas and political views; some of the standard that must be raised will completely undermine nations that rely on this broken global market but the overall goal is ensuring the market is comprehensively fair. If the trend continues most markets could be at risk for offshoring and swift action is required from global leaders; in the same way that we have currency conversions to ensure fairness we must have global standards for labor practices. The internet also plays a pivotal role in helping the western labor market as long as it is lightly regulated. The internet spawns innovation at rates unfathomable by any other time period because people are equipped with a tool of infinite knowledge that allows collusion between people from around the world. This issue is highly complex and so it must be addressed with patience and caution although a fix must be implemented sooner rather than later.
