The main goal of Howard “Bunny” Colvin and Dr. David Parenti is to make sure that their program teaches the corner kids by teaching the kids things that are related to their world. The corner kids are those who are taken out of a regular classroom because they are disruptive in a classroom and are in the street life.
The first scene that really shows how Colvin and Parenti are trying to make the kids learn is from season four episode nine from 27:25- 28:20. This scene first starts off with all the students walking into the classroom where Miss Duquette says to pick a table that they kids want and each of those tables has a name which will be their group name such as Eiffel Tower or Big Ben. Now Colvin and Parenti want this for the students when the work together as a team in the classroom to build a model. The teachers also add the reward of being able to get dinner wherever they want as a way to motivate them. But what the students do not know is that them having dinner is a way for them to learn real life things such as table manners, proper use of utensils and how to act in a different setting. The activity was for a way to Colvin and Parenti to teach the corner kids manner and how to act in real life situations.
Another scene where Colvin and Parenti are talking about the ways to teach the corner kids is in episode ten from 23:40- 25:45. Now even though in this scene none of the students are present, the audience still sees how Colvin and Parenti try to teach the kids using different methods. This scene starts out with Superintendent Shepherdson, Bunny Colvin, and David Parenti all in her office as they start talking. Shepherdson is baffled as she asks if Colvin and Parenti took the students to them to the restaurant. He then mentions that he took them to Ruth’s Chris where there was linen napkins and silverware.
