Greece
Mycenae is a site in Greece located in the Peloponnese, Southern Greece. Mycenaean culture was based around its main cities in Mycenae, Tiryns, Pylos, Athens, Thebes, Orchomenos, and Folksier. Mycenaean art was melded, forming a cultural amalgamation that is found on Crete (figurines, sculptures and pottery). Archeologist has found extraordinary material wealth deposited in the shaft graves at Mycenae (ca. 1550 B.C.) and because of its powerful elite society Mycenaeans flourished in its four centuries. I will talk about three major cultural artifacts in ancient Greece time.
Parthenon Temple Parthenon is a temple on the Athenian Acropolis in Greece. Its architectural style is the Doric order and was built in 447 BC when the Athenian empire was at the height of its power. The temple was built to house the cult statue goddess Athena and to glorify the success of Athens after defeating the Persian armies of Darius and Xerxes. According to Mark Cartwright (2012) the temple would remain in use for more than a thousand years, and despite the ravages, explosions, looting and pollution damage, it still dominates the modern city of Athens. Gods and Goddess Early Greek religion was based on gods and goddess like Zeus, the king of sky, earth and human beings and ruled the world form Mount Olympus. Poseidon was the ruler of the waters, Aphrodite, the goddess of love and Athena, the goddess of wisdom and guardian of Greece. There are very few temples or shrines that have been found where religious practices might have been exercised. The Law Code of Gortyn (Crete), c. 450 BCE The Gortyn Code, also called the Great Code is the largest document of Greek law in existence and was found in the ancient city of Gortyn on the island of Crete. The Law Code of Gortyn detailed the legal rights of citizens which are Bring Suit, Rape and Adultery, Divorce and Marriage Rights, and Property Rights and Inheritance. For example; if one commit rape a free man or woman, he shall pay one hundred staters. Another example; if a man fathered children with a slave, those children were also considered slaves.
