In Food Inc., Kenner includes the story of a young boy named Kevin who dies of Ecoli O157; H7 (Kenner). Kenner understands that the tragic story appeals to emotional state of the audience because most people understand the feeling of lost and sadness. The audience in return feels compassion and empathy towards Kevin and his family. The emotional impact alters the mindset of the spectator to become more aware of the food they consume and purchase. Schlosser also assesses the influence that food production has on children by testifying, “meat industry” has “endangered” and “facilitated the introduction of deadly pathogens” into “Americas hamburger meat” which is insistently consumed and “marketed to children” (Schlosser 9). Schlosser affirms the idea that children compose the future and to have food, a basic resource, endanger the life of children retaliates the danger of meat consumption. The direct and informal tone creates an emotional connection between Schlosser and his audience and sustains Schlosser’s credibility. Therefore, the reader develops an emotional attachment to text and trusts Schlosser. In between using facts and logical statements, Schlosser tells a story about a cowboy named Hank who has a two daughters, “Allie and Kris, aged six and eight” and an “attractive” and “strong wife (134). With the use of facts and narratives, both Schlosser and Kenner implement and defend their argument. Both producers, construct factual and evident information that transcends the thinking of the audience and expands on the overall dispute. Simultaneously, they both also form emotional and tangible attachments to the audience to form credibility. Overall, Schlosser and Kenner understand that they must encompass logical and emotional appeal to transform and combat the food
