“Almost three thousand years ago, people who lived in the starkly beautiful part of the world we now call Greece were telling stories about a great war.” After a vast hero had seen the remarkable birth of his child, he embarked on a journey with his men to battle in a brutal and callous war. The Odyssey is a Greek epic written by Homer which captures the boundless journey of Odysseus, as he strived to return to Ithaca after battling in the Trojan War. Homer had been a prominent writer who expressed the legends and myths of Greek goddesses throughout his epic, The Odyssey. She aspired to convince him to stay on her island and prevent the hero from traveling to Ithaca to unite with Penelope and his son, Telemachus. Despite the fact that the goddess had seduced Odysseus on her beautiful island for years, Odysseus deceived and betrayed Penelope. The hero had not been able to control his actions, as he had slept with the enticing nymph each day for seven years. During the period in which Odysseus had been imprisoned on Calypso’s majestic island, he was enticed by Calypso. However, he deceived and betrayed Penelope, as he slept with the seducing goddess. Similarly, Odysseus was also seduced by Circe, a witch who also desired to hold Odysseus as a captive and entice him, after he approached the island of Aeaea. As Odysseus vast journey continued throughout Homer’s epic, he had finally traveled back to his homeland to confront his faithful wife after twenty years of misery. During the period in which Odysseus confronted his sincere wife, he had not mentioned the fact that he had slept with a seducing nymph for seven years and had not explained the tempting and challenging aspects of his journey.
