Have you ever thought if perception is or isn’t reality? In my opinion, perception is not reality. Our eyes and brain are never 100% sure about everything. Your eyes might see something and your brain can tell you something else. If you don’t see something that doesn’t mean you don’t have to believe it. Even though when you see something you can believe it, but we believe things that we cannot see like gravity. If you have ever seen an optical illusion or something like that, it sometimes doesn't make sense because optical illusions trick not only your eyes but your brain too. The first reason why perception isn't reality is the story “Sorry Wrong Number” by Lucille Fletcher. The story is about a woman named Mrs. Stevenson and she overhears …show more content…
Magic is something, but appears to be something else. In a story called “Magic on the Brain” by Susana Martinez-Conde and Stephen L. Macknik, a magician named the Great Tomsoni changed the color of a dress from white to red. One of Tomsoni’s most famous tricks is the magical dress change where he changes the dress of his assistant from white to red by doing “magic”. Many people in the audience and people that are watching over the tv were fooled by this because they couldn't comprehend how the color of the dress changed from white (such a pale color) to red (such a bold color). Then he goes and quickly rips off the white dress that the assistant is wearing and a red dress is shown to the audience. The audience starts getting very, very confused because they couldn't understand how the color of the dress changed so quickly. Tomonsi’s trick behind all this is that he used a cognitive illusion. He diverted the audience's attention and …show more content…
In the story, there is a boy named Dave that goes to school and everyone gave him a nickname because he was really thin, the nickname was “Heartbeat.” Dave started eating food that contained a lot of fat like egg whites, yams, and cottage cheese, so he could gain some weight. Dave sometimes would skip some meals so his metabolism goes faster so he gains more weight. One day he wore 2 layers of clothing and he thought that everyone liked him better. So other week he would add another layer of clothing, people stopped calling him Heartbeat and he felt good. Dave got invited to a party and he wore 7 layers and it was 100 degrees outside, he was sweating really hard that he couldn't do it. Dave went to the bathroom and took off every layer except 1 layer and he throw his close in the cabinet. He forgot to get his close so the next day everyone found out that he was wearing multiple layers of clothing. People didn't do anything they encouraged him to stop, so Dave made a promise he won't “try” looking fat anymore. Then Dave got invited to another party but he couldn't decide what to where, so he said I will wear all of them. If Dave told people that he didn't like it I bet they would stop, but he didn’t and kept it inside of him. This shows that perception isn't reality or seeing isn't believing. In Dave's perception everyone made fun of him for
