The Commanding Officer told us how proud he was to be given the opportunity to congratulate the group of new sailors standing before him. He told us what was expected of us in the future. That our journey had only just begun, and that there would be many adventures to follow this day. As his speech came to close, he yelled out "Liberty call, Liberty call" and everyone cheered. Every sailor broke ranks and began scattering to find their family members. I kept my current position and waited for my family to find me. My fellow division members rushed past me and finally, my family appeared from the crowd. I remember hugging my father as he told me how proud he was of me. He had also served in the Navy. As I went to hug my mother I noticed that she was crying. She had missed having her son at home. I was also congratulated by my older brother and his wife. It felt good to finally be finished with my basic training. I was really excited for the next part of my career in the Navy.
