Thankfully I was able to migrate to the US, away from all of this. It was good a good thing, which offered a different, more prosperous upbringing. When we moved, we didn’t have much, so I appreciated everything I had. I always had good grades, and ended up getting my school paid for by academic scholarships. Because of the serious nature of my life in Peru, I also had a very secluded life. We would stay within the Latin community, and participate with its events. My mom didn’t want me to lose my culture. That is not the type of experience I want to have. I know that studying abroad is the next step in my higher education. It can help me get out of my comfort zone, and help me experience things outside of a textbook or a computer screen. Steve Jobs said that life is about creating and living experiences that are worth sharing. I have always been a person who learns things by doing them, that’s why I wish to be an engineering major.
