Since my arrival here, a little less than two years ago, I have fought hard. The first obstacle in my path has been language; having to learn English was a hard experience. Every day I would watch the news to expand my vocabulary and strengthen my wording. Gladly I was able to overcome it; now I am in position to help the others.
In addition, I had to get a job to help my family, but being a person who is never satisfied with little, I constantly was looking for a better employer. My first job was at a Chinese restaurant; unsatisfied with the few hours they had given me, I went out to look for a better one. After a week I found a job at a pizza place. This was a humongous wall in my path. I come from a society where grades do not matter. What decides one’s future is one’s knowledge. To get into a university one would need to pass an exam. The grades I had in Brazil really hurt my academic performance.
After a while, things got better. I was Americanized and able to live my life easily, but it was too late. The time it took me adapt, even though short, harmed my performance. At least now, I know there are not any speed bumps in my path anymore; now I can and will
