Personal Narrative: Improving Communication

My sister, LJ, is 21 years old and she knows me the best. She goes to college at St. Catherine's but lives with us so I see her everyday. I chose her because she knows me the best and she is always the one I turn and talk to whenever I need advice or have a problem.There are many parts in communication and many things that also affect it. I think our communication is strong but there are still some areas that we can improve so I want to take this opportunity to improve those areas. Our communication was not always the best and that was usually because of our age difference, even though it is not that huge. One thing that my sister and I do well at is giving feedback to each other. Whenever we both write essays, we turn to each other for proofreading and peer reviewing. I think that this helps improve our communication because we tell each other the other person’s mistakes in a way that it would not hurt them but instead help them. We also give feedback on how well we did with talking to boys that we are interested in. For example, if she did not really make that much eye contact when talking to a guy I would later on tell her that she needs to improve her eye contact next time she talks to someone else. Me and my sister live together and that can be a positive and negative thing. A good thing is that she is always there whenever I need someone to talk to. I also do not have to wait for days until I can talk to someone because she is always there. A negative thing is that living together can sometimes create tension and when it builds up, you guys fight and the communication becomes negative. It puts a strain on your relationship and the connection between you guys wavers and becomes awkward. The environment at home can also make us argue a lot because of problems that arise with chores and stuff. But it can also deepen the connection we have between each
