Personal Narrative: Improving My Writing Skills

As I reapproached school in the second semester I realized I needed to focus o my writing. I did not do well in my writing during UNV-101, so I decided this time I would improve myself over the course of our 3 essays. I need to have a good set of writing skills for when I become a teacher so I can grade effectively and correctly. Welcome to the Matrix has helped me improve my writing skills drastically over the course of the semester. In the beginning of the semester, we started off with a analysis essay and I did not do well on the concept of the essay. I was confused and ended up giving more of a book report. This paper ended up getting a much better grade than I originally anticipated. I had improved on giving analysis, so it was less of a book report. I did need to increase my analysis though because it was general in many places. I took this as a big step in improving myself. I realize I need to do more analysis, but it was a step in the right direction which made me happy. A line I enjoyed from my second paper was, “The twisted social media is used to show off popularity with social validity and insult others by bringing them down. The concept of social media was manipulated to keep people at the bottom to never let anyone reach their full potential.” (Schaffer). I liked this line because it was a claim that I found in the reading which I used evidence to support my claim. I took what I was reading and turned into a thought of my own, which I found to be significant progress from a book review. I find it still difficult to do analysis over a simple book report with detail. I have to be careful in what I’m writing and make sure it fits the goal of the paper and is not its own thing.
