Personal Narrative: My Field Experience

Standing on the field, I never thought I would get an experience like this. I thought I was average or normal. I used to think that “This won’t happen to me”. Whether it be on my own team or someone from a different, I always thought that there was someone better. I didn’t think that I could extraordinary in anything. I never thought I would get to do something I love in front of thousands of people. I look back at all practices when I thought I couldn’t do more. I thought to myself, Would I be good enough?
The day started out with nerves and continued throughout until the end. I spent the whole day trying to calm myself but nothing was helping. I knew it was going to be like this. This was a new experience for me. My first state experience,

After breakfast we all loaded into the vans and headed to Drake Stadium. All the rides in the vans this weekend have been full of joy and laughter and this wasn’t an exception. This helped to keep my nerves in check. When we arrived to the stadium it was freezing cold. We all bundled up in our blankets and headed to the fieldhouse. The fieldhouse is a place at the stadium where the runners could stay warm and stretch. When we got to the fieldhouse we were not cold anymore. As get to the straight away, I see that Katie is ready for me to hand-off to her. I hear the roar of the crowd. I knew all the cheering wasn’t for me, but it still motivated to move faster. I yell “GO” as loud as I can, and she takes off. When I got close enough I yelled “HIT”. She whips her arm back and I place the baton in her hand. She then takes off for her portion of the race.
After I was done, I went to the side to cheer Katie and Ellie on as they ran. Katie ended up passing 3 girls during her leg. That put us in fifth. Katie and Ellie had a perfect hand-off too at the end of Katie’s leg of the race. Ellie then takes off, fast like usual. She starts to pass a lot of people. She still had one lap to go and we were now in third place. Ellie keeps going along and eventually passes the second place girl. On the final stretch Ellie was going hard. Brynn, Katie, and I were cheering her on from the finish line.
All of us were back together at the finish line. When the race was done, we looked up at our time and saw that it was a new school record. We were all so proud for getting second. We all hugged each other and were screaming with
