On another note, one of the first historical books I had read as a child was one about the Trail of Tears that the Cherokee Indians underwent during the early nineteenth century. By means of reading that book, I came to empathize with and recognize the plight of others throughout history. Throughout my seventeen years of life, history has served as a tool to teach me understanding and awareness for events that occurred in the past as well as how certain events still affect people today. Later on in my life, my pursuit of learning history especially grew during my time in middle school and high school. Taking classes in American history and Western Civilizations sparked a curiosity in me to learn more about history on my own. Moreover, I would go on to visit museums and read many books to quench my thirst for historical knowledge. Some of the museums I enjoyed visiting include the National World War II Museum, New Orleans’s Civil War Museum, the Alamo, the Dallas Holocaust Museum, and the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial
