Personal Narrative: My Senior Year Football Team

I used to be content with putting on my football jersey, eating the team meal, putting on pads, and getting little to no playing time during games. Of course, I wanted enough playing time to tell my friends and girls at school that I see the field, but I didn’t want any pressure on me. Thoughts of screwing up an entire coverage or concept when it mattered most scared the daylight out of me. At the start of my junior year I began to overcome that fear, as the idea of becoming more of an impact player on the field excited me. I worked harder all year, and finally my senior year I was in the rotation for a good amount of playing time. To my surprise, a few weeks into my senior year football season I was selected as a starter for our rivalry game against the Canton Chiefs. As I walked down the halls at school that Friday I felt different wearing my jersey. No longer was I interested in everybody looking at my uniform and numbers on it, I was focused on football. Through the drive to school, every one of my classes, and even lunch; the only thing running through my head was when it was going to be game time. I ran through everything I had learned in practice that week at least a hundred times that Friday, and it made me more and more anxious as time passed. After putting my jersey on my shoulder pads in the locker room, we headed for room 401 where chalk and team meal was held. I never ate much since I got to be in the first group to walk out on the field because I was a punter. Even though I was the starting punter, that wasn’t the position I was excited to start that day. Tight end was the position I was getting anxious about playing, kind of a mix between a wide receiver and an offensive lineman. I was numb all over, but I took six ibuprofen pills before strapping up my helmet to walk
