Standing Up for Yourself

Standing up for yourself, when you feel that you are right can sometimes be a difficult situation for a person. Some individuals choose to not say or do anything. A person can feel intimidated by a police officer or someone in a higher position, but that should not stop a person from standing up for themselves respectfully. If a person truly feels they are correct, a person should say or do something to defend themselves if needed. Why should a person stand up for themselves? A person should stand up for themselves, so they are not taken advantage of or treated unfairly. I had an experience with a minor car accident a few years back that is an example of standing up for yourself.

The intersection had a lane on the left, which was the left turn lane, and a lane on the right to head straight. I was in the lane to go straight and stopped, because the light was red. There were three other cars ahead of me stopped as well. The turn left arrow light turned green, but the straight lane was still red. I had sensed the traffic moving in my peripheral vison, and started to accelerate. I moved forward when I should not have, and rear ended the car in front of me. I had pushed the car in front of me into another car in front of them. I knew I had made an error and immediately called the police to report the accident. The police and fire department arrived and assessed the damage and made sure everyone was alright and not injured. One person had bumped their head and had a small area that was bleeding.
