General purpose: To persuade
Specific purpose: To persuade the audience to consider adopting a pet from a local shelter instead of buying one from the pet store or other sources.
Thesis: People need to adopt more animals.
Introduction
I. Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to live on the streets constantly searching for your next meal and never knowing the feeling of companionship?
A. This is the life of stray animals.
B. If they are lucky, someone kind will find them and turn them over to a local animal shelter.

III. Reason why we shouldn’t buy a pet from a pet store
A. The puppies from a pet store are likely to have come from a puppy mills

Even though there are some pet stores that sell pets from caring private breeders, you cannot tell whether the pet store is telling the truth or not.
Conclusion
IV. Thus, when you are ready to take care of a pet and want to give an animal a home, you should consider adopting from your local animal shelter.
A. By doing so, you will be doing a good thing because you will not be supporting puppy
