On August 6, 1945, the United States declared the authorization for the first atomic bomb to be sanctioned on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. A few days later, a second bomb was permitted to be dropped on Nagasaki. This military strategy was extremely controversial in the United States as many believed that Japan would soon surrender, and the use of the bomb was in no means justified. Likewise, people feared it lead to a nuclear arms race and the United States, setting a precedent, would be the one to blame. The atomic bomb would now be prevalent in the world forcing the United States to have to always be mobilized.
