When I read the first few acts and scenes of Taming of the Shrews, I was pretty confused when I came upon the scene where Petruchio was trying to tame Katherine. My thoughts were all over the place when I first read the scene but as I went deeper into the play, I concluded that Petruchio marrying Katherine was the best way for her to have a better life and I was completely correct. I read deeper into the play and I eventually finished it. I was completely shocked by how much Katherine had changed ever since she left her hometown until now. The Katherine from the beginning of the play is completely different now. In the middle of the play, I noticed that Katherine was a little bit obedient to Petruchio but now I think that she is completely obedient to Petruchio and it’s astonishing. In my opinion, I think that nothing was as important as Katherine’s speech at the end of the play. If you don’t think that Katherine is obedient to her husband Petruchio then you should read those important lines again. It took me a while to break down what Katherine was saying but I finally concluded that she’s saying that being submissive and obedient is the key to a happy marriage. This is probably the most important and shocking part of the play in my opinion because I witnessed Katherine change throughout the whole play. I witnessed a peevish Katherine who hated Petruchio turning into a obedient and submissive wife who adores Petruchio.
