1. The “Shrew” in The Taming of the Shrew and Ten things I hate about you, are portrayed differently due to the context of when and where the texts were set.
The Shrew in “Taming of the Shrew” and ‘Ten things I hate about you’ both portray two different contexts as they both have different characters and settings. In ‘Ten things I hate about you’ Kat is portrayed as a very stubborn and negative young girl but soon warms up to Patricks efforts trying to win her over. In the beginning of the movie, Kat is always very hesitant and very strong-minded and has mood swings quiet frequently but throughout the film she seems to lighten up and become pleased with Patricks efforts. This can be backed up when Kat and Patrick go to the dance together and Kat is happy with Patrick until she finds out that Patrick was being paid by Joey to date her. “You’re so not the person I thought you were” Kat stated to Patrick. The shrew in both ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ and ’10 Things I hate about you’ plays a very dominant and important part. Both of these characters are girls and are very similar to one another. Katherine plays the shrew in ‘The Taming of the shrew’ and portrays a very bitter and stubborn character towards the start. While Kat plays he shrew in “Ten things I hate about you’ and plays a very harsh and tough character towards the start of the movie. When both Shrews meet the boys (Petruchio and Patrick), they instantly put up their guards. The more the shrews associated with the boys, the more mellow they started to become. In both instances, Petruchio and Patrick while almost breaking both the shrew’s heart, they in fact softened the Shrew’s which then led to both Katherine and Kat falling in love with the
