In today’s society college is becoming less of an option and more of a necessity. Without college your chances of becoming successful are a lot less. As the cost of tuition rises, the number of students in college will decrease. This is upsetting because kids are losing out on the opportunity to learn just because they are afraid of debt and high tuition costs. Tuition should be more realistic by giving students a reasonable price when they are striving to go to college.
Even our president wants school to be at least somewhat free to the students that attend college. Obama plans on making community college free for two years; Putting 12 billion dollars into the community college school system within ten years’ time (Chandler Clay, Obama Commits to Community Colleges, 21). This is still not enough for everyone, but it’s a step in the right direction. Community college credits rarely transfer to four year universities, so this money could be wasted if students transfer and have to retake classes that didn’t transfer.(Yeoman Barry, Low Income Students Pay High Income Prices at Many Colleges, 1).
Most students have pressure on them to go to college not only from their parents but also from their friends. Many students want to go to college but decide not to, because they fear the debt will be too much to pay off with the income from there career. Each students who decide not to go to college waste one hundred thousand dollars of taxpayers’ money. Taxpayers end up paying ten thousand dollars for every year of high school, middle school, and preschool for no reason if students
