The patients who weren’t as social I don’t believe were faced with any psychosocial issues because Dr. Sette was able to make them feel comfortable and got them to talk and interact. In the nursing home setting, there were some patients that I felt could have been depressed from being alone and without social interaction. But a contributing factor to consider in the nursing home is many of the patients have some form of dementia which can also affect social interactions. Physical therapists need to stay mindful of each patient’s emotional and social interactions because it is key to a patients overall recovery.

As physical therapist we act as movement experts identifying and diagnosing the reason for decreased mobility and forming treatment plans to assist in returning patients to previous functional levels. As I observed, I was reaffirmed of how important movement is for the physical therapy profession. I compared side by side individuals who had the same procedures, some who lived sedentary lifestyles and weren’t as willing to perform home exercise programs versus individuals who were active and eager to return to work. By using movement as physical therapist we can facilitate recovery and sustainability of the human body.
Physical therapists across Texas are pushing for direct access in order to improve availability of services. In my opinion, the profession is ready for the responsibilities associated with direct access to patients. Due to the transition from a master’s to a doctorate for all physical therapy programs. Upon graduation I anticipate to have the skills needed to provide quality patient care
