As a native of a medically underserved community, I have seen the negative effects of low access to health care first-hand. Through primary and secondary school, my classmates often missed months of school because their families could not afford to travel for primary care. Shadowing primary care providers in the area enlightened me to how much of my community suffers from preventable diseases because they can only attend one primary care appointment annually. Fulfilling my dream to become a physician assistant would allow me to provide access to care for the hundreds of desperate members of my community. As a physician assistant, I could positively impact multiple generations in my community through the establishment of trusting and lifelong relationships and non-discriminatory
