Pickle. It is a flapjack! Stay out of the kitchen, and do not hit a falafel! No, this is not a cooking show; it is an intense game of pickleball. Since 2020, Pickleball has increased at a rapid pace in the United States with over 50,000 courts, 13.6 million players, and an increase of 223.5 percent in participation in the game (USA Pickleball). Although the rise is good, it presents a problem. With this rapid increase in the sport, the noise levels that the game presents are a concern that should be addressed. Pickleball has become a fun and engaging sport; however, in some places, it has become too much fun. However, unlike both sports, in pickleball, the server must say which server they are. For example, if the score was four to seven and the second server was up he would announce the score as 4-7-2 indicating that he is the second server and that they are down four to seven. While this scoring might be odd, it becomes pretty easy once people start playing. One of the appealing features is the smaller court. This allows older people to play because they do not have to move as much. Pickleball also helps with aerobic and endurance training, which improves one’s heart and blood circulation to the muscles (Cofer 6). According to Cofer, it is “recommended to schedule at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity into your week” (6). Playing just two or three games of pickleball can reach this weekly recommendation. People want to be more active and play longer games and invite more people, which is contributing to the noise of the game. The problem with all of this popularity is the noise.
