Piggy asks Ralph not to call him Piggy, but Ralph does it anyway, and Piggy is still loyal towards Ralph. Piggy is loyal to Ralph because he knows that if Jack becomes leader, they will never get off the island, and Jack would torment Piggy. At the end of the book when the boys were being rescued, Ralph recalls, “The fall through the air of the true, wise friend called Piggy.” (235) At this point, Ralph finally realizes how loyal Piggy was towards him, and wishes he could have seen this sooner. Piggy is very compassionate about doing the right thing even if no one agrees with him, or if it gets difficult. When Jack steals Piggy’s glasses, Piggy decides to go and get his glasses back. Piggy wants to say to Jack, “But I don’t ask for my glasses back, not as a favor. I don’t ask you to be a sport, I’ll say, not because you’re strong, but because what’s right’s right.” (198) Piggy ends up dying without telling Jack that he wants his glasses back. Since Piggy ends up dying while trying to do something he truly believes in, I would consider this the most admirable quality anyone could ever possess. In my opinion, Piggy is the most admirable character in Lord of the Flies. He is very wise, is loyal to his friends, and is willing to do what is right, no matter what the outcomes are. Piggy dies for what he believes in and I think everyone should be able to do the same
