Social media plays a drastic role in the world today. It is everywhere, and is something that has already reached well above its full potential. It is the leading role of community outreach, it is what millennials are spending their time with each hour, and it’s forming faster and faster by the second. There are websites that allow individuals to share photos of the aspects of the world that is already theirs, and the world that they are aspiring to try and capture. The two social media applications that are my personal favorites are Pinterest and Instagram. Pinterest is a map, informing me on where to go, while Instagram is a reminder of where I have been. I believe Pinterest to be more informational than Instagram. Pinterest is a one stop shop of collection upon collections of healthy habits, hair and makeup tips with a splash of fashion advice, fun DIY projects/hobbies, and exciting adventures. It is fully used to reconnect with friends by commenting and liking their posts. On this app, you are able to keep up your friendships with longtime friends by watching their lives day in and day out through pictures. You are able to “like” and “comment” on their photos, or even just send them a direct message or photo that only they can see, which helps with the maintenance of the friendship. For example, one of my very best friends and I live three hours away from one another and we are both full time students with part time jobs and a social calendar. Though with the click of a finger, we are able to stay connected and keep our long distance friendship closer than ever by “seeing” each other through our profiles. We are able to send each other funny memes, silly pictures of ourselves, or even something more serious, such as a news update directly from the touch of a button. This has been a much needed outlet for maintaining a friendship that otherwise might would have drifted
