Bryson Ratcliff Mrs. Carey Language Arts, Period 1 29 April, 2024 Pit Bull Argument “There are no bad dogs, only bad owners.” Woodhouse once said. Pit bulls are known for biting and injuring people, but it’s not wholly their fault. Ever since Irish immigrants arrived, people have been getting pit bulls in America, and soon they went from heroes to vicious from attacks originating in human error. Pit bulls should be pets because they are exceptional protectors, and have many occupations. To start, pit bulls can safeguard our lives. When pit bulls are trained, they can act as a guard because they are strong and have positive characteristics. In summation, pit bulls can shield us from damaging blows and can clash with our lives. Pit bulls can be honed for different jobs. As the blog, The Pit Bull Debate, states, “Jessup shows that the loyalty, playfulness, and athleticism of pit bulls makes them fit for a range of roles, including that of a family pet” (Murray). Along with a family pet, pit bulls can be herding dogs, therapy dogs, and even, as stated, a guard dog. The reasoning behind this is their trainability and the traits they possess wonderfully partner with being trainable, one of those being loyalty. Then, athleticism makes pulling sleds easy, so they not only can be helpful to their brains, but their body too. Critics would say that pit bulls are uncontrollable and dangerous. However, all of this ‘uncontrollability’ and ‘danger’ originates from bad owners going on the media, and reflecting their irresponsibility.
