Plagiarism is starting to become unavoidable in our education system. There are now so many tools that make it easy to take something and label it as your own. If there was more knowledge given out to students about plagiarism then the matter could easily become avoided. There are many steps that can be taken to eliminate the use of plagiarism.
Students need to obtain the knowledge of what plagiarism really is. Students are not taught enough about it. They need to properly learn the value of documentation for their writing. As Guffey stated “Documentation is the act of showing where your information came from, whether in a business report or in an academic essay.” (Guffey, 2014 p. 241) By giving students the knowledge of how to properly document their work it removes all uncertainty of what is allowed and what isn’t. People need to take the time out to learn the details about plagiarism. Plagiarism is best described as quoted from Guffey;
Plagiarism is the act of not documenting your sources, of taking another person’s ideas or published words and not acknowledging that fact. Any time you quote directly, paraphrase, or summarize information from a source, you must document it. Documentation in a business report serves three purposes. (Guffey, 2014 p. 242-243)
