Imagine a police department where field training officers engage in professional misconduct while on duty with their trainees. Police misconduct violates the standards and ethics of departmental policies and procedures. Police misconduct compromises the trust of the community, integrity of the department, and the profession of policing as a whole becomes questionable. Supervisors play a pivotal role in managing a productive diversified workplace (Miller & More, 2011). In this essay, the operational decision types and the reasons for varying decision making models will be identified. The sound operational decisions made by the sergeant will be evaluated. The mistakes that were made at the beginning will be identified and suggestions on how to prevent situations like these from occurring in the future will be provided. An opinion on who is at fault and the sound decision that the sergeant should make to resolve the situation will be provided.

The relationship between Roberts and Tibbetts has become little to “friendly” (Miller & More, 2011). Sergeant Williams overheard other staff’s conversations about seeing Tibbetts and Roberts kissing in the parking garage of the police department (Miller & More, 2011).
