Were houses in Pompeii seen as medium of propaganda in comparison with the houses in South Africa in the 21st century?
Agree. Reasons:
• The decoration of their houses tell us more than just art
• Some of the Romans that were own houses in Pompeii, so they most likely to show off
• In south Africa people want to share art and to them decorations or restricted areas were not just to show off but to tell a story behind their personalities or the their family structure
Introduction
Houses in Pompeii were very rich in art and as well they respected the privacy of the restricted rooms. People who lived in Pompeii generally used art as a medium of propaganda, to show off their high status.
Houses in Pompeii in comparison with South African houses in the 21st century
Houses in Pompeii were more of a public space than a private one (class notes). Roman families were more focused on status and advertising themselves through art decorations which played an important part in self-promotion. For an example the house of Vettii, belonging to the upper class, the people who were rich and had tendency to show off.

In the black community (not for racial issues) a house is more private than any aspect in the community, especially, the bedrooms or the living room. For an example in my house, where I live, a woman is not allowed to enter a men’s bedroom, is this case it was my grandparents’ bedroom, so technically it belonged to my grandfather and he was the head of the house which for us the family members it is perfectly understandable why. Not only could not entire the bedroom, even visitors, sometimes they would be sent in the dining room not living because according to my culture a living room, is a sacred place for a family to discuss family matters and bound. So if we have visitors in the house, they would mostly sit in the kitchen on the dining
