I have conducted few interviews with some community leaders and consulted the book “The Portuguese in Canada,” by Carlos Teixeira, Victor M.P. Da Rosa. Other searches were made through Internet. Being a Canadian of Portuguese origin I am identified with the community residing in Canada. I feel that, to explore this theme I needed more time. Nonetheless, all five of my interviewees were cooperative and participated with great enthusiasm in this project.
The focus of my observations is on the probability of the disappearance of the community as we now know it, in a not so far future, due to the following reasons:
1. Acquisition of citizenship.
2. New generations of Canadians of Portuguese descendent.
3. Weak mechanisms to support and maintain a status quo which no longer serves the aspirations of the new generations

The celebration is called “Portugal Week,” but, in reality it lasts for more than a month. These events attract thousands of people which participate with intense devotion in all scheduled occasions of the extensive program. One can witness the sense of patriotism in all the faces and the happiness given to them by remembering and reliving the traditions and history of a people who live in a piece of land, called by many “A Janela da Europa,” The Window of Europe, due to its geographic location on the extreme west of the Iberian Peninsula and with the component, in the Atlantic Ocean, of the archipelagos of Azores and Madeira. To this event, and others, representatives of the Portuguese Government from the main land are VIP guests, together with Canadian authorities and politicians. The Portuguese visitors define their experience by stating that they observe more patriotism in Canada than in Portugal itself. So, it is safe to conclude that, to love Portugal you have to be apart from the
