Andy is a thirty-eight year old man. He has been happily married for ten years. He has three children ages 10, 12, and 14. They live in the suburbs outside of Atlanta, Georgia. Andy’s wife is an elementary school teacher and part of the Parent Teacher Association. Andy is in the Army. He was sent overseas for two years. Before he left, he was calm, understanding, and a wonderful person. About two months after Andy returned from Iraq, his attitude and personality started to change. Andy started sleeping on the couch instead of the bed because the ceiling fan reminded him of a helicopter. Andy couldn’t sleep for more than two hours because he dreamt of the war. Andy had headaches constantly which made him irritable. Andy’s children would argue with each other and he would just scream and yell at the tip of a hat. Andy did punch a few holes in the wall because of his bursts of anger. These types of behaviors are commonly associated with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. This introduction is to just give an idea of how daily life is for some people returning from war. Even though it may be fictional, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is very serious.

Sam Cahill with a good home, a good life, and a good family. He loves his family and takes good care of them. Sam was calm and patient. He did not let little things bother him like his kids arguing or his kids not eating their vegetables. Sam goes over to Iraq and his helicopter crashes.
