This assumption is based off the exact wording in the constitution where it states “he shall receive Ambassadors and other public Ministers” (Sidlow, 2015, Appendix B, p. A-7). With this power he also directs the country’s foreign policy and is the most powerful representative for the nation.
In addition to the above, another role given to the POTUS is that of Chief Legislator. The name Chief Legislator did not appear in the Constitution either. However, the Constitution does state “from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient” (Sidlow, 2015, Appendix B, p. A-7).
Finally, the POTUS has the role of Political Party Leader or “de facto leader” of their party. The founders of the constitution did not want “parties” in the political system so therefore this title was not mentioned. With this title he or she chooses chairpersons for national committees, president appointments and removals, offers patronage to those members whose assistance helped them win the office of President, and he or she is the party’s chief
