Presence means aware and participating much as one can in patient’s circumstances.

Presence, is an attitude of palpable—immediate, kinesthetic, affective and profound—attention, and it is the ground and eventual goal of experiential work.

Presence means listening carefully, following what the patient has to say, paying attention his behaviours, noticing the emotions of the patient

Patients suffering with dementia are often in a dreamy state where their experiences do not fit with the ‘’consensus reality’’ of others.
Thus their actions and behaviours may seem socially inappropriate towards a clear goal. In such situations communication is better experienced through presence.

Being present,
