Any source of information is extremely valuable to the public services, whether it be qualitative or quantitative. Information helps in the process of decision making. It can help identify problems and help members of the Public Servicers communicate better. There are two types of information: Primary and secondary. Primary information comes straight from the original source; is made up of original documents and raw data. Secondary information has been interpreted by ‘other than the originator’ (Glasgow Caledonian University).
Information can be essential to the effective and efficient operation of the Public Services. Having more in-depth information from a variety of sources leads to better decision-making because there may be a heightened understanding of the issue. Important information when. The statement of the crime would be secondary. Secondary Information isn’t the best as words can be interpreted incorrectly, also it may not be to full accuracy as the information sources’ memory may not be the best.
It may be very important to keep information up-to-date, as information such as DNA can expire, and may become more unreadable as time goes on. Making decisions based on outdated information could cause issues. A good way of maintaining information is by assigning someone to maintain it regularly. An example of managed information is Criminal Records.
Data can also help with recruitment.
