There are approximately forty million children in the world each year who are subjected to child abuse (http://arkofhopeforchikdren.org). They experience physical, mental, and sexual mistreatment at such young ages that may even travel into their adulthood. This mistreatment of their psyche, and bodies can have an enormous impact on their futures or on the futures of those children who survive through it. A factor that goes along with child abuse are those people who are the abusers. Abusers receive very little time in prison, if any at all. A child’s life is so important, just as anyone else’s, and why harm those that shape our futures in our current society. Therefore, a person who may abuse any child physically, mentally, or sexually should be forced to spend more time in prison.
Child abuse comes in so many different forms and have so many different factors included within them. The main types are assault (physical), neglect (mental) and sexual. Physical abuse is intentional or unintentional harm done causing minor or major injuries. These injuries may include bruises, broken bones, or burns. Discipline is also factored into the category. This type of abuse includes actions such as neglect and making threats toward the child. Neglect is a very basic topics as it includes carless or negligent actions towards the child. It may also be leaving the child to care for themselves and failing to provide adequate support for the child. Making threats towards a child also falls into the category of mental abuse. In this case the abusers may make verbal threats, but it does not include any physical harm. The child may often experience humiliation from the abusers, as well as being
