Some of these include the economic and social effects of rape, as well as specifically which social cohort of people experiences the most sexual assault. More research on the actual policies themselves would also be beneficial. On the research process, I didn’t have too many issues. The main problem, however, was the struggles of researching sexual assault from a specific lens at the beginning. It might have been easier to spend a week on background research at first, and focusing on the entire issue as a whole, and then later being able to narrow our topic down through lenses. This issue was felt throughout our whole group. By narrowing it down without any prior knowledge to our topic, we all chose different parts of sexual assault. Whereas a variety of information is valuable, all of our topics were so far apart that they didn’t really connect. For example, I focused on previous sexual assault cases within prisons, while someone else focused on a loophole within policies that allowed for a sexual assault lawsuit to be considered as a sexual harassment lawsuit. Without a greater understanding of our topic in general, it feels as if our research is too spread out, without any focal point outside of sexual assault.
