The Prison Reform Movement is a push in the right direction. America was confused about how to handle prisoners, balancing justice for crime victims with opportunities for the incarcerated to re-enter society. While experts exacerbate the necessity of imprisoning many criminals as a form of punishment, there exists a divergence of opinions regarding which offenses warrant incarceration, the appropriate duration of sentences, and the treatment of inmates. Starting with the Corona Ponds, this project removed non-native species from the ponds, which helped the ecological balance. At the Southern Region Headquarters, fire reductions were implemented, as well as overall maintenance to improve safety. Another community collaboration was the San Bernardino Unit Headquarters, where general maintenance and fire hazard reductions were measured. In Yucaipa, more maintenance was done around the fire station, such as construction, perimeter clean-up, fuel reductions, and weed abatement to reduce fire risks.
