People who support the use of animal testing have a belief that the benefits to people outweigh the consequences to animals( ). Animal testing is a huge problem in the U.S. It is cruel and abusive though there are advancements in modern science and experiments called “In vitro”. If animal testing is stopped then scientist can use alternative methods.

One place animals are tested in is a laboratory where animals are tested to see if certain products are safe. Research animals are used only for scientific research, medical and veterinary investigations in testing drugs,cosmetics, and other consumer products( ). These animals get chemicals, mixtures, and serums rubbed on their skin, squirted in their eyes, and injected for the benefit of humans.

Doctors test new surgical techniques on animals before trying similar procedures on humans( ). The animals get new surgical techniques tested on them when it’s needed, and so animal needs don’t matter when compared to humans. The text states, “The most extreme activists have broken into laboratories, released animals, and physically harassed the researchers involved.”( ). This shows how far some people are willing to go to stop animal testing. If people are willing to break into laboratories; what else could they do? In 1960 public began to turn against animal testing( ). This means the public is beginning to see that animal testing is cruel, inhuman, and wrong.

In addition there are many organizations that have to do with animals. Some are the American Society for the Prevention of the Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The ASPCA was founded by Henry Bergh in 1866. Henry was on the welfare of animals in the U.S.( ). Also PETA was made to help animals. By 1990 it had more than 400,000 members( ). These groups show that people don’t want to to test or hurt animals anymore. PETA and ASPCA were just the beginning and later many more groups were
