Cosmetic companies such as Make Up For Ever, Estée Lauder, Benefit Cosmetics, Victoria Secret and other companies still use animals to test their products. Animal testing is cruel and inhumane because it is hurting animals. According to the website ProCon.org it quotes, “ According to the Humane Society International, animals used in experiments are commonly subjected to force feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint…” In the paragraph of Con

The website ProCon.org also states that, “ According to Senator Jeff Flake's “Wastebook” of government funding, over $7.3 million of taxpayers’ money was wasted on studies involving animals in 2016. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) found $56.4 million of government funds spent on animal experiments that, despite running over many years, failed to provide any useful results.” While it is true that experimenting on animals is very expensive it is a waste of government research money when there are alternative methods that are less expensive. According to a data table by humanesociety.org it demonstrates the cost comparison of animal tests and alternative methods. It also includes the types of test and cost. There was a test on ‘Genetic toxicity of a sister chromatid exchange.’ The cost for the animal test was $22,000 and in an “In Vitro” test the cost was $8,000. In another experiment a ‘Rat phototoxicity test’ the price is $11,500 for an animal test. For the alternative method ‘3T3 neutral red uptake test’ the cost is $1,300. An animal test of a ‘Rat 24-month cancer bioassay’ cost $700,000 compared to an alternative method of ‘Syrian hamster embryo (SHE) cell transformation test’ that cost $22,000. According to Pro 1 by the website Procon.org it states, “The polio vaccine, tested on animals, reduced the global occurrence of the disease from 350,000 in 1988 to 27 cases in 2016.” It also states that research has given major advances in treating and understanding conditions such as breast cancer, multiple sclerosis, and other diseases. In Pro 5 the author states, “Animals themselves benefit from the results of animal testing. If vaccines were not tested animals, millions of animals would have died of rabies, distemper, feline leukemia, infectious hepatitis virus, tetanus, anthrax, and canine parvo virus.” These examples are how animal experimentation has been useful to making treatments for us and other
