Euthanasia is a medical subject that has been controversial ever since medical technology has improved dramatically. Some say it is inhuman. Some say it is a release for the terminally ill. Euthanasia is assisted suicide, and a very controversial topic. Is this really inhuman, if it’s someone’s choice? As crazy as this might sound to you, I support Euthanasia because it’s a release for the terminally ill. People have the right to die because it protects selfhood and human dignity. To be terminally ill means you have a disease that cannot be cured or adequately treated. An example is cancer. There is no cure, and the treatment is not 100% effective to everyone. Medical technology is improving dramatically, but the holy grail of treatments is not in our grasp. To think about the future of medicine when you have a person that has an expected death date isn’t helpful. Death by nature is usually private, but Euthanasia involves direct harm as requested by the patient. …show more content…
A lot of times people talk about having the right to live but, to me, this is almost the same concept. What everyone fails to see is that our life as humans implies death. So as much as you argue that everyone has the fundamental right to live, it means the same as everyone has the fundamental right to die. Since we have the right to live by our own will, we should also have the right to determine our own course.
Despite these criticisms, the demand for Euthanasia is undiminished. As humans, we have the ability to determine our destinies. But imagine a life where a fatal illness has kept you from doing the basic things in your everyday life. Say you are a person that can’t move, breathe, or do anything on your own. The principles of living have been stolen from you. Selfhood and human dignity are the foundations of being human. People in these situations would rather die because it is apparent to them that they will soon
