JFK once said, “Every aspect of the American economy has profited from the contributions of immigrants.” The United States has gone through some highs and also some lows in its history, but if it were not for some of those lows then we could not have reached those highs. One important aspect in the U.S. that has helped in more ways than one, is immigration. Immigration has provided and still provides many benefits for the U.S. The growth in U.S. productivity and the completion of hardworking jobs are just two of many benefits immigration provides. If it were not for immigration than the United States would not be the country that it is today.

America to many other countries is the “Land of Opportunity,” which many people would risk anything for the experience. In Johnny Angel Wendell’s article, “Illegal Immigration Benefits America,” he states that there are 11 million people inside the U.S. that are illegally documented. So in fact 11 million people are risking everything just to experience America, maybe for employment or to achieve a better life. Many immigrants come to America to find employment so they can send money back to their families. Even though for illegal immigrants finding a job might be dangerous for there is a risk of being sent back to their country or maybe even arrested, they would risk it all for the sake of their families. In Gary Colombo, Robert Cullen, and Bonnie Lisle’s novel Rereading America, there is an article called, “How Immigrants Become “Other”” by Marcelo M. Suarez-Orozco and Carola Suarez-Orozco, which tells about people and their real and intricate immigration stories. One of the people interviewed was Gustavo Jimenez, who told his story about finding work in the U.S. Jimenez described how at first it was hard finding work in the U.S., but then after Hurricane Katrina hit he said, “Who but us migrants would do these hard jobs without ever taking a break?
