“Helping a person will not necessary change the world, but it will change the world for that person”. As humans we all make mistakes that isn’t something to be proud of. Ex-convicts are always misunderstood just because they have “record”. Although that doesn’t make anyone a bad person when they know their faults and want change for greater good. Everyone deserves a second chance and to be taken seriously to others that they have improved from their old habits. Probation/Parole officers can help them make that change to deter further criminal behavior and help provide reparation to crime victims and their communities.
The educational background to be probation/parole officer is that candidates must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work or related field. Some few states require officers to have Master’s degree. Most jurisdictions require that officers must complete a training program or attend a certification academy. The training program is varying in length but includes modules on psychology and behavior modifications, cover laws and regulations regarding probation in that jurisdiction.
