We discovered our topic of The Declaration of Independence, when our class was learning about The Revolutionary War. It was such a significant event in America’s history because it was the first time, people realized they wanted to speak for themselves. A group of people wanted to change the way they were being governed, because they realized Britain was taking advantage of them and their rights that they knew they deserved. As we continued to research, we found out that Thomas Jefferson had a significant job in the process of drafting the document, and at that time not many people were as skilled at writing. Each of our group members have some sort of experience creating a project like this so we all know the basic layout of how an exhibit should be. We created our project by having a design first, then afterwards we bought fiberwood to be the trifold. We planned to stain the wood for a more vintage and unique look for our project. Our theme is red, white, and blue because of the American Flag so we plan to use paper that are those colors for the backing. We have our texts and images that we are going to print out, and paste on the board. The National History Day theme is Conflict and Compromise, and the topic we chose to research about is the Declaration of Independence. Our topic relates to conflict, because the colonists in America thought that they were being treated unfairly by Britain. The King made laws that could be considered acts of tyranny like The Stamp Act, Quartering Act, and The Sugar Act. They also didn't have any representatives in Parliament so Britain didn't understand the struggles the colonists went through. Our topic also relates to compromise because without the explanation for the colonists freedom in the Declaration of Independence, the colonists wouldn't have came together to rebel against the King and make their freedoms
