Yes, I do agree with the IPE model as a guide for programmatic redesign. According to ACCP White Paper, there is evidence that suggest that the interprofessional approach to health care improves the quality and decreases the cost of care. The IPE model would help the students collaborate with other health care professionals by communicating effectively to see if there’s any errors or discrepancy to patients’ medications and build a team-based relationship with the health care professionals to help improve patient outcomes and quality of care.

The first approach is to assign students to different health care professionals and shadow them. For example one student shadows a clinical pharmacist and the other student can shadow the doctor, and the other student can shadow the nurse, and so on. This approach can be beneficial because this would help the students view other health care professionals perspectives by understanding the important everyday roles of the health care professions. Collaborating with different health care professionals can help promote optimal patient-centered care. Another approach is to allow students to work on patient cases with other health care professionals. This approach is beneficial because the students can communicate with the other health care professionals and discuss the specific problems or issues of the case such as potential drug-drug interactions or changes in dose of medication.
