According to the Department of Education, there were approximately 1.3 million English learners in public schools. This is less than last year’s report. The overall percentage of bilingualism is 80% in the State of California alone. This gives us a detail of how many bilingual students are attending public schools. With a low amount of English learners it would be considerate to believe that teaching bilingualism can provide better opportunities for our educational system?
For California to become more economic devolved and provide work force readiness, our education system needs to improve. Education has been the back bone of our society.
The data also says that 22.3 % of the total enrollment are English learners only. Therefore, if bilingualism was presented in the classroom the numbers could double for enrolment. Once we provide the instruction for bilingualism our foundation as a nation can become stronger. Tax payers spend millions of dollars each year on instruction for non-English speakers. With only 25% of English learners in California, we should realize that the other 75% non-English is costing more to educate. Our education system needs to be improved and stable.
